Q: What is the on-line training?

A: This training is a self-paced study that provides content information and follow-up questions to assess what you have learned. Two modules, one addresses food safety from planting to market and the other module concentrates on organizing a farmer’s market. Each module contains several lessons. Nine units make up the training and each unit has from 2 to 4 short lessons.

Q: Who should complete the on-line training?

A: Anyone interested in learning more about safely growing, producing and harvesting fruits and vegetables; and organizing a local farmers market.

Q: What are the objectives of the training?

A: 1. Producers will increase their knowledge of food safety risks, sanitation practices and regulations associated with direct marketed specialty foods.
2. Producers will increase their knowledge of establishing and organizing a community Farmer’s Market.
3. Producers will develop safety and sanitation skills needed to reduce the risks of a foodborne illness during production, harvest and processing of direct marketed foods.
4. Producers will follow regulations to market specialty foods.

Q: How do I get started with the training?

A: To get started, complete the registration form by clicking on the “Register Now”. The purpose of registering is to receive login information and directions to access the training. Once you have logged on to the training, you will be able to access instruction for completing the training.

Q: How long do I have to complete the training once I receive my log-on information?

A: It should take about 1-5 days for you to receive your logon information. Usually within one day. You will have 3 months to complete the training.

Q: Do I have to complete all of the lessons and tests?

A: As you work through the lessons, select and complete the topics that are of most interest to you. If all the lessons are completed by answering the follow-up questions and completing the evaluation, you will receive a certification of completion from the SDSU Cooperative Extension Service.

Q: Is this course offered through other mediums?

A: Yes. You can obtain a copy of the contents on a CD-ROM. However, some of the links to embedded documents may not be available through this medium. And, instead of questions following each lesson, an assessment (test) can be printed off and completed while reviewing the contents and sent to the following for a certificate of completion:
